Now that the Board has met today I can tell you that neither of our Area 15 candidates were elected as Trustees. Our new Southeast Regional Trustee is Susan V., from Area 73, West Virginia. Our new Trustee-at-Large/U.S. is Jennifer B., from Area 6, California Northern Coastal.

It was nice not to rush downstairs this morning after such a late night. Of course I was still awake early but could take my time. I still managed to arrive early so I could get in those last few precious conversations with people. Again, many people I have seen “in the squares” of online meetings for years and years and now serving together. Sadly some just this year due to rotation but excited some are on this journey together for another year. At 9:45 we heard 5 minute talks from each Class A, Regional, At-Large/U.S., and General Service Trustees along with a Director that were rotating. They all shared their deep love for Alcoholics Anonymous regardless of their position or how many years they served. They had to dash off to their Board meeting leaving Staff and Delegates to say their goodbyes. So, just like that a very very very long week of the 75th General Service Conference went by in the blink of an eye. (photo)

Once again it was wonderful to share lunch (photo) with Lori, the North Florida, Area 14 Delegate and our guests. A two hour nap was definitely in order for me and then closed out my day with some NY pizza until next time. As I saw this week everything is not black and white but a lot of gray and compromise all in the name of unity for A.A. as a whole but black and white is best saved for cookies. UU. es Jennifer B., del Área 6, Costa Norte de California.

Ha sido agradable no tener que bajar corriendo esta mañana después de una noche tan larga. Por supuesto, me desperté temprano, pero pude tomarme mi tiempo. Aun así, llegué temprano para poder tener unas últimas y valiosas conversaciones con la gente. Una vez más, muchas personas a las que he visto «en las plazas» de las reuniones en línea durante años y años y que ahora prestan servicio juntas. Lamentablemente, algunas solo este año debido a la rotación, pero me alegra que otras sigan en este viaje juntas un año más. Una vez más, fue maravilloso compartir el almuerzo (foto) con Lori, la delegada del Área 14 del norte de Florida, y nuestros invitados. Necesitaba una siesta de dos horas y luego terminé el día con una pizza neoyorquina hasta la próxima vez. Como vi esta semana, no todo es blanco o negro, sino que hay muchos tonos de gris y concesiones en nombre de la unidad de A.A. en su conjunto, pero el blanco y el negro es mejor reservarlos para las galletas. Most Conference members had to check out and back in draft literature that we were going to be voting on (see photo). I had copies with my committee documents. We started our last day at 8 am with Literature (committee I serve on) then moved to International Conventions/Regional Forums (IC/RF) and finished committees with Public Information (PI). Since we still had so much to cover we decided to shorten our lunch time. I want to pass along the beautiful Grapevine display (see photo) that was there all week. We heard a total of 54 committee recommendations (motions), too many to count committee considerations, and 12 Floor Actions. We did get through ALL of the items and ended at 11:46 pm Out of the 54 recommendations and 12 Floor Actions, not all passed and after the Board meets tomorrow (which is today as I write this) I can talk about what they are and what passed. There is a later start of 9:45 am to hear farewell talks from rotating Trustees. More later …..

La mayoría de los miembros de la Conferencia tuvieron que revisar y volver a registrar los borradores de los documentos que íbamos a votar (véase la foto). Yo tenía copias con los documentos de mi comité. Comenzamos nuestro último día a las 8 de la mañana con Literatura (comité en el que participo), luego pasamos a Convenciones Internacionales/Foros Regionales (IC/RF) y terminamos los comités con Información Pública (PI). Como aún nos quedaba mucho por tratar, decidimos acortar la hora del almuerzo. Quiero compartir la hermosa exposición de Grapevine (véase la foto) que estuvo allí toda la semana. Escuchamos un total de 54 recomendaciones de los comités (mociones), demasiadas para contar las consideraciones de los comités, y 12 acciones de la sala. Logramos terminar TODOS los puntos y terminamos a las 11:46 p. m. De las 54 recomendaciones y 12 acciones del pleno, no todas fueron aprobadas y, después de que la Junta se reúna mañana (que es hoy, mientras escribo esto), podré hablar sobre cuáles son y cuáles fueron aprobadas. Today we had Committee Reports and Discussions for 10 hours spread out over 5 sessions with a break, lunch break, and dinner break. We opted to use the hour we had for a General Sharing Session: “Closing the Gap: How do we make the voice of every Group count?” be used for more Committee Reports. We had a Committee Report Sequence (see the pictures) but we did stray from the order a little. Sometimes there are updates so they print them for us to pick up. (see photo). During the break I once again looked at the Conference Archives and loved seeing the old “ask it basket”. (see photo) .We did finish the Committees on Agenda then covered Finance, Trustees, Grapevine and La Vina, Report and Charter, Archives, Cooperation with the Professional Committee (CPC), and Policy/Admissions, That leaves us with Literature (the committee I serve on), International Conventions/Regional Forums and Public Information (PI). Even though it’s only 3 committees tomorrow but there are still a lot of recommendations (motions) and then we’ll get to Floor Actions. Should be another very full day. More tomorrow……..

Hoy hemos tenido informes y debates de los comités durante 10 horas repartidas en 5 sesiones con un descanso, una pausa para comer y otra para cenar. Hemos decidido utilizar la hora que teníamos para una sesión de intercambio general: «Cerrar la brecha: ¿cómo hacemos que la voz de todos los grupos cuente?», para más informes de los comités. Teníamos una secuencia de informes de los comités (véanse las fotos), pero nos desviamos un poco del orden. A veces hay actualizaciones, por lo que las imprimen para que las recojamos (véase la foto). Durante la pausa, volví a echar un vistazo a los archivos de la conferencia y me encantó ver la antigua «cesta de preguntas». (ver foto). Terminamos el orden del día y tratamos los temas de finanzas, fideicomisarios, Grapevine y La Vina, informe y estatutos, archivos, cooperación con el Comité Profesional (CPC) y política/admisiones, lo que nos deja con literatura (el comité en el que participo), convenciones internacionales/foros regionales e información pública (IP). Wednesday is our “casual dress” day. Our day started with the A.A. Grapevine Board Summary Report followed by the last grouping of Inventory Report Backs. The General Sharing: What’s On Your Mind? was next. We had a short break when I could sign other people’s books and look at more Archive display stuff (Fun Conference Facts – see photos). Lunch was with our Region where we elected our candidate from the SE for the At-Large Trustee/U.S. that will happen in a little bit. Elections for Southeast Regional Trustee and East Central Regional Trustee and Trustee-at-Large/U.S. took some time but what an exciting process and we finally used our voting clickers. Dinner on our own was a nice break and chance to grab a slice and chill in the room for a bit.

Now it was time to hear what happened in everyone’s committee meetings and what their recommendations and considerations were. First we heard from Corrections then Treatment and Accessibilities and part way through Agenda. A cool thing happened of a recommendation that had an amendment which passed with way more than 2/3 but after minority opinion someone made a motion to reconsider which passed. The vote to pass the original recommendation passed by an even larger margin! A large shift of members changing their mind based on the minority opinion. Very cool process. More tomorrow ..

El miércoles es nuestro día de «vestimenta informal». Nuestra jornada comenzó con el informe resumido de la junta directiva de A.A. Grapevine, seguido de la última ronda de informes de inventario. A continuación, tuvo lugar el intercambio general: «¿Qué te preocupa?». Hicimos un breve descanso en el que pude firmar los libros de otras personas y ver más cosas expuestas en el archivo (datos curiosos sobre la conferencia, ver fotos). Almorzamos con nuestra región, donde elegimos a nuestro candidato del sudeste para el cargo de administrador general/EE. UU., que se celebrará dentro de poco. UU. llevaron bastante tiempo, pero fue un proceso muy emocionante y por fin pudimos utilizar nuestros mandos de votación. La cena por nuestra cuenta fue un buen descanso y una oportunidad para tomar un trozo de pizza y relajarnos un rato en la habitación.

Ahora era el momento de escuchar lo que había sucedido en las reuniones de los comités de todos y cuáles eran sus recomendaciones y consideraciones. Primero escuchamos a Correcciones, luego a Tratamiento y Accesibilidad, y a mitad de la agenda. Ocurrió algo interesante con una recomendación que tenía una enmienda que se aprobó por más de dos tercios, pero después de la opinión minoritaria, alguien presentó una moción para reconsiderarla, que fue aprobada. ¡La votación para aprobar la recomendación original se aprobó por un margen aún mayor! Un gran cambio de opinión de los miembros basándose en la opinión minoritaria. Un proceso muy interesante. Mañana más…

Another early start for the Literature Committee. We managed to finish our agenda items and even talk about a few extra things. I can’t wait until Saturday when I can talk about what we put forward for the Conference to vote on. Our meeting ran a little late so we joined the lunch line just down the hall. After lunch we all came together to hear the Eastern Canada Region Area Highlights and then the AAWS Board Report Summary. We had a short break (I looked at Conference Archives that were on display – see the photos) then heard from both At Large Trustees and GSO Staff person about A.A. International: World Service Meeting Highlights. Always so fun to hear their stories. Another bunch of Inventory Groups gave their report backs followed by Area Highlights from the East Central Region. We had a Delegates only dinner and elected a new Delegate Chair and Mail person who sends our emails to all Delegates when we have a question. The Northeast Region gave their Area Highlights and then it was our turn – the Southeast Region. I had a special shirt under my regular shirt (see photo) so it made it easy to talk about our area. I managed to even do so with 14 seconds left on the clock! We heard an International Convention Report and closed out the night with a wonderful skit done by the Staff. More tomorrow ……

Otra mañana temprana para el Comité de Literatura. Conseguimos terminar los puntos del orden del día e incluso hablar de algunas cosas más. Estoy deseando que llegue el sábado para poder hablar de lo que hemos presentado para que se vote en la Conferencia. La reunión se alargó un poco, así que nos unimos a la cola para almorzar al final del pasillo. Después del almuerzo, nos reunimos todos para escuchar los aspectos más destacados de la región del este de Canadá y, a continuación, el resumen del informe de la junta directiva de la AAWS. My day started early as I wanted a good seat for the Literature Committee meeting. I was first one in the room and got my computer all set up along with my binder of just literature background. Soon, my fellow members came along and we met from 8:04 am to 12:23 pm. We had some really great discussions on the several items we covered today. We already know that we’ll probably need to work through lunch tomorrow if we are going to finish. Since I just had a short time until another inventory report back session at 1:30 I just dashed up to the room for a snack. After the inventory report back there were Area Highlights from the West Central Region and Western Canada Region. We had another set inventory groups do their reports back before we broke for dinner. The Finance report and Audit was after dinner. A General Sharing Session: What’s On Your Mind? closed out our business day. The SE Regional Trustee took delegates and plus one from our region and Western Canada to Junior’s for cheesecake. Not sure I’ll be able to sleep but in the meantime enjoy the pictures from today of the 12 Steps, 12 Traditions, 12 Concepts and my Literature Committee binder. More tomorrow …..

Mi día comenzó temprano porque quería un buen asiento para la reunión del Comité de Literatura. Fui la primera en llegar a la sala y preparé mi ordenador junto con mi carpeta con toda la documentación sobre literatura. Pronto llegaron mis compañeros y nos reunimos desde las 8:04 hasta las 12:23. Tuvimos debates muy interesantes sobre los distintos temas que tratamos hoy. Ya sabemos que probablemente tendremos que trabajar durante la hora del almuerzo mañana si queremos terminar. Como solo tenía poco tiempo antes de otra sesión de informes de inventario a la 1:30, corrí a la sala para tomar un refrigerio. Después de los informes de inventario, se presentaron los aspectos más destacados de las regiones del centro-oeste y del oeste de Canadá. Otro grupo de inventario presentó sus informes antes de que nos fuéramos a cenar. El informe financiero y la auditoría fueron después de la cena. Una sesión general para compartir: «¿Qué te preocupa?», cerró nuestra jornada de trabajo. El administrador regional del sudeste invitó a los delegados y a un acompañante de nuestra región y del oeste de Canadá a Junior’s para tomar tarta de queso. Finally the day has arrived for the 75th General Service Conference to start! I couldn’t wait to get down to the meeting room and find a seat. I picked up my Conference Manual and quickly found a place to sit. I did take a few pictures that I will share of the banner and my manual. We started at 8:32 and after our opening and some Policy and Admissions business we had roll call. No, I didn’t cry but it was very cool. Our Conference Delegate had a greeting followed by the Conference Coordinator giving us an overview of our manual. The keynote was given by a Class A. We do have copies of these. We started Mechanics of the Conference then broke to all go to our Inventory discussion groups. Lunch was by region and immediately into hearing from some inventory groups. We revisited Mechanics of the Conference and heard a General Service Board Summary report from the Chair. Area Highlights from the Southwest and Pacific Regions were informative and almost all did great on time. I did have an opportunity to look at the 12 Steps, 12 Traditions and 12 Concepts in all three languages, the A A Grapevine display, and really enjoyed the Archive display. The archive picture is part of the Conference Digest from 1965 and I did mark out her last name in my photo so it can be posted. Eve M. was from Broward County. After a short break the Conference members had our opening dinner and A.A. Meeting with 5 speakers: a regional trustee, 2 area delegates, AA Grapevine Director and AAGV Publisher. What a full day. ¡Por fin ha llegado el día en que comienza la 75.ª Conferencia de Servicios Generales! Estaba impaciente por llegar a la sala de reuniones y encontrar un asiento. Cogí mi manual de la conferencia y rápidamente encontré un sitio donde sentarme. Hice algunas fotos que compartiré del cartel y de mi manual. Empezamos a las 8:32 y, tras la inauguración y algunos asuntos relacionados con la política y las admisiones, pasamos a la lista de asistentes. No, no lloré, pero fue muy emocionante. Nuestro delegado de la conferencia nos dio la bienvenida y, a continuación, el coordinador de la conferencia nos ofreció una visión general del manual. El discurso de apertura corrió a cargo de un miembro de clase A. Tenemos copias de los discursos. Last partial day of free time so I decided to make the most of it. Shared some delicious pizza at our favorite place (John’s of Times Square) with friends and my delegate pal, Lori just north of us in Area 14. After lunch we took in a matinee, Death Becomes Her. What a funny show and it’s always good to laugh. On the way back to the hotel we grabbed some awesome cheesecake from Junior’s, yum. Finally, it was time for our first official onsite event of the 75th General Service Conference, a meet and greet from 7-9 pm. So great to put more faces to names and little boxed faces. Oh, and lots of swag was exchanged too. Very pumped up and excited to start tomorrow at 8:30 (the full schedule is posted if you wish to follow along) but I know I will be there well before our start time. Era el último día parcial de tiempo libre, así que decidí aprovecharlo al máximo. Compartí una deliciosa pizza en nuestro lugar favorito (John’s of Times Square) con amigos y mi compañera delegada, Lori, que se encuentra justo al norte de nosotros, en el Área 14. Estoy muy emocionada y con muchas ganas de que empiece mañana a las 8:30 (el programa completo está publicado si queréis seguirlo), pero sé que llegaré mucho antes de la hora de inicio. What fun to bump into fellow delegates in the hotel lobby before going to the General Service Office. It was a bit of a family reunion while waiting for the 11 am AA Meeting to start with seeing friends and meeting people in person after only knowing them in the squares. After the meeting I did join one of the tours up in the office which was fun with fellow delegates and visitors from Scotland who were in town. Lunch was casual down in the cafeteria following the tour. As I was leaving, a delegate I had just met along with one who is also serving on the Literature Committee offered to give me a ride to the hotel. I had a brief rest before heading out to the Yankee game. Sadly, the game didn’t end the way I preferred but I know some Canadian delegates at the game were happy with the outcome. Upon my return to the hotel I saw the thoughtful, beautiful and tasty gifts from some Past Delegates. A few pictures from today are attached. More tomorrow …..

Qué divertido fue encontrarme con otros delegados en el vestíbulo del hotel antes de ir a la Oficina de Servicios Generales. Fue como una pequeña reunión familiar mientras esperábamos a que comenzara la reunión de AA de las 11 de la mañana, viendo a amigos y conociendo en persona a gente que solo conocía de los foros. Después de la reunión, me uní a una de las visitas guiadas que se organizaban en la oficina, lo cual fue muy divertido con los demás delegados y visitantes de Escocia que estaban en la ciudad. El almuerzo fue informal, en la cafetería, después de la visita. Cuando me iba, un delegado que acababa de conocer, junto con otro que también forma parte del Comité de Literatura, se ofrecieron a llevarme al hotel. Descansé un rato antes de salir para el partido de los Yankees. Por desgracia, el partido no terminó como yo quería, pero sé que algunos delegados canadienses que asistieron al partido quedaron contentos con el resultado. Today was travel day. I flew from Fort Lauderdale to JFK airport (New York). As luck would have it we bumped into the Delegate from Area 62, South Carolina at the baggage claim so we shared a ride to the hotel. After having lunch with friends we took in a show, Redwood which was excellent. On the way back to the hotel, I had to grab dessert. Attached are a few pictures from today….. more tomorrow …..

Hoy era día de viaje. Volé desde Fort Lauderdale al aeropuerto JFK (Nueva York). Por suerte, nos encontramos con el delegado del Área 62, Carolina del Sur, en la zona de recogida de equipajes, así que compartimos el viaje al hotel. Después de almorzar con unos amigos, fuimos a ver un espectáculo, Redwood, que fue excelente. De vuelta al hotel, tuve que comprar un postre. Adjunto algunas fotos de hoy… mañana más…
