SMF-196_en – Responding to Disasters — “How Can We Help?”
Hi Shirley,
Good afternoon, it was good to hear from you via the Conference desk. Thank you for your service and of course be safe taking every precaution with the approaching hurricane.
When I return to the office on Tuesday I will follow up again. As you may know, it is not uncommon for AA love and generosity to reach out, often in powerful outpourings, in circumstances such as appear to be taking shape over the weekend in Florida.
While GSO does not directly handle financial or literature support for local AA in the aftermath of any storm or disaster, we do route inquiries to the local level, usually starting with the Area Delegate. Please let me know if this is best or if perhaps if you know of another point of contact for fielding any forthcoming inquiries that may ensue.
Shirley, if you have the time, would you please relay this information to the Area 14 delegate—I would but I have the office already—as well as consider reviewing the service piece online Responding to Disasters-How Can We Help?

Of course, your Areas likely have shared experience for these circumstances, for you all to respond to inquiries, offers, and mailings. We can certainly talk about it on or after the 3rd of September.
All of us at GSO send prayers and best wishes in what is an especially challenging time. Let me know how else we might be of assistance.
Best of the best to you and your family and all Floridians!
In Love and Service
Steve Smith
